2008 Artist's Requirements

 

Each applicant is required to submit five representative images of their current work.  One image must show an example of your booth setup. Images and applications will ONLY be accepted through ZAPPlication. Questions may be answered by contacting Micheline Burger, Visual Arts Chair, at artists@hiddenglen.org

 

Work is accepted in:

Two Dimensional:

  • Painting - Oil, Acrylic, Watercolor, Mixed Media

  • Photography

  • Printmaking & Drawing - Pastels, Any Media

Three Dimensional:

  • Fiber

  • Furniture

  • Glass

  • Jewelry

  • Pottery

  • Sculpture

  • Wood

Work is judged on originality, craftsmanship sophistication and imaginative use of materials.  Decisions of the Visual Arts Committee are final and the committee reserves the right to prohibit exhibition of unsuitable works at the time of the show.  Mechanical reproductions are allowed, but the majority of the work must be original and handcrafted by the artist.

This is a fine arts event.

Artists are expected to prepare ample materials to sufficiently stock their display areas.

2008 Dates

Applications must be received by April 15, 2008.

The Festival will be open on Saturday, September 13, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Sunday, September 14, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Purchase Patrons are invited to make their selections beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.

 

Jurors

The work of each applicant will be reviewed by a panel of qualified jurors according to the criteria established by the Visual Arts Committee.  Top award winners from the 2007 event will be invited to return.

 

Jury Fee is $25.00

Display space fees are $265.00

 

Exhibit Space

Artists will use their own 10' x 10' exhibit tents.  Artists must supply their own tents.  Any "pop-up" style tent model is OK provided the tent complies with the following: 

  • 10'x10' footprint maximum!
  • White tents only!

Any roof shape is permitted so long as it is white.  Your tent must be erected precisely within your assigned space.  We ask that you please cooperate with the HGAF set up crews on this.

Exhibitors are encouraged to merchandise their artwork in any way desired.  All materials must fit within the assigned 10'x10' area.

Sorry, electricity is not available in the artist area.

 

Location

The Festival is held in a picturesque lakeside park at Cedar Creek in Olathe, Kansas at K-10 Highway and Cedar Creek Parkway in southwest Kansas City. There is an area to park recreational vehicles if you are interested. This area does NOT have electricity or running water.

 

2008 Awards

Hidden Glen Best of Show and Merit Awards are awarded as follows:

  • Best of Show        $750 cash + $265 booth fee for 2009 festival

  • Merit Awards:        $250 cash + $265 booth fee for 2009 festival  (4 awarded)

 

 

Security

Security will be provided on the Festival grounds from 6pm Friday until 8 am. Saturday and from 6 pm Saturday until 8 am Sunday. The Festival, however, cannot assume responsibility for the artist's work.

 

Purchase Patrons & Sales

For 19 consecutive years the Hidden Glen Arts Festival at Cedar Creek has enjoyed outstanding participation from Purchase Patrons.  Purchase Patrons' support over the past six years has averaged about  of $30,000 per year.

 

All proceeds from sales go to the artist - no commission is charged.  Individual artists are responsible for collecting sales tax.

 

2008 Deadline

Applications must be received by April 15, 2008.  Notification of the results of the juried selection process will begin June 1, 2008.
